Asking for what you want is a muscle and I’ve been doing my reps!
Earlier this year, I reached out to a local pole studio to see if I could teach beginners pole there. My first message went out in February. My first class? July. That’s nearly six months to get a foot in the door - and here’s how I did it:
17 Feb: Sent a friendly intro, shared my background, and expressed interest in assisting to gain experience
9 Apr: Followed up with an update on my progress – I’d landed my first permanent class and launched @pole.petal
28 May: Sent a light-touch check-in to say I was still keen to work together
10 June: Rearranged my schedule to meet the studio founder in person. Afterwards, I followed up with lesson plans and videos
30 June: Checked in again to see if I could be added to the instructor cover list
1 July: Taught my first cover class!
I may be fairly established in the PR world, but in the pole teaching world I’m a total beginner. This took patience, consistency, and soft (but serious) persistence. It’s been truly refreshing to start from the bottom in a new industry.
Consider this an encouragement. If you’re sitting on a pitch, an idea, or a next move then this your nudge. Send the message. Follow up. Make the ask.

AI-generated band hits 1 million streams
A Guardian investigation uncovered that “Velvet Sundown” – a band created entirely by AI using Suno’s tools – racked up over a million streams on Spotify before anyone realised the artists didn’t actually exist. The case has reignited pressure on DSPs to clearly label AI-generated content and disclose training data sources. It also raises big questions around royalties, copyright, and how consumers engage with music when the artist is… no one.
